CROSFIELDS 26 LYMM RL 10 - 15/07/09
Summer met winter at Hood Lane as Lymm RL took the opportunity to travel
to Crosfields for a much anticipated friendly match.
With Lymm
struggling to find games in recent weeks, Crosfields from the Fraser
Eagle National Conference League were seen as the ideal opponents as
Lymm embark on their assault on the Minor Premiership in the Co-Operative
Rugby League Conference North West and the end of season play-off series.
Ahead
of the game a number of regular squad player made themselves unavailable
for the contest meaning that the club had to draft in numerous trialist
players from around the amateur game in the town, who all took the opportunity
to represent the Crouchley Lane outfit. Crosfields meanwhile had a strong
line-up with many of their Conference players for the up and coming
season on show.
Crunching
exchanges between both sets of forwards dictated the pattern of play
in a tight and entertaining first-half, Lymm hitting the front as the
Crosfields defence fell for a wild dummy from wingman Mark Fitton who
went over in the corner.
Lymm threatened
again soon after with Matt Mahoney desperately unlucky not to cross
against his old side and with Soap going on to touchdown twice it was
they who held a 10-4 half-time advantage.
Lymm looked
to have got back into the game early into the second-half when Neil
Evans went within inches of scoring. As it was Crosfields greater power
proved the difference in the closing stages as they took the game out
of Lymm's sights who continued to battle bravely and were rewarded with
a try from a powerful trialist forward that Pete Leonard goaled.
