LYMM RL 18 NEW BROUGHTON 26 - 09/05/09
A much improved performance from Lymm, saw them make a very creditable
first home appearance of the season against last years North West Grand
Finalists New Broughton.
In a much
changed team to the one that had travelled to Wigan, two weeks earlier,
five players made their debuts for the club including Sean Hughes, Zak
Lythgoe, James Dudley, Oliver Higginson and Mike Cadd.
Elsewhere
Dan Foster, Mark Fitton, Matt Rockey and Paul Hennessey all returned
to the fold to leave Lymm with a healthy squad of 19 players.
In a first-half
that swung from one end to another it was the visitors who held a narrow
12-14 interval advantage with Lymm’s tries coming from Pete Cannon
and debutant Sean Hughes whilst scrum-half Pete Leonard added the extras.
The visitors
pulled away early into the second-half to take the game out to 12-26
with two converted tries but Lymm responded in kind with Cannon’s
second touchdown of the afternoon and Leonard’s third successful
goal.
However
Lymm couldn't cross again leaving New Broughton to celebrate the victory.
Lymm will travel to Runcorn next time out hoping for a repeat of the
performance in August when they qualified for the Cheshire Grand Final
with a 10-20 victory.
