NEW BROUGHTON 16 LYMM RL 24 - 20/06/09
A second-half fight back saw Lymm RL move into second place in the Rugby
League Conference North West Premier Division with a fine away day victory
at the high flying New Broughton Rangers.
With many
players away on holiday, Lymm's team was much changed from the one that
had defeated Blackpool, a week earlier, with Craig Millington and Frankie
Bird both making their debuts for the club.
With a
powerful forward park, Lymm laid good early foundations and were rewarded
when Mike Cadd crashed over under the sticks and Sean Hughes goaled.
However,
Lymm failed to build on their early promise and with Millington in the
sin-bin, Broughton went onto score three tries, two of which were converted
to give them a 16-6 interval advantage.
With the
words of Coach Anthony Sullivan in their ears, Lymm responded early
into the second-half as Cadd crossed again to complete a brace of touchdowns
and when Pete Cannon went over, the Lymm comeback was gathering momentum.
Zak Lythgoe
then gave the visitors the lead as he stretched out to score and with
Hughes goaling, Lymm were up by four points.
A nervous
final five minutes followed as Broughton went within inches of registering
a match winner, however as they tried to over play on their own line,
Richie Bancroft soon collected a spilled ball to seal a memorable victory.
